Corrosion Fatigue in a steam line

The crack was formed from the combination of water corrosion and cyclic stresses induced as a result of thermal expansion and contraction. Note the straight transgranular nature of the crack and the corrosion roducts both at the mouth of the crack and to a lesser extent, down the length of the crack.
